The Massachusetts Youth Risk Behavior Survey

It's a parent's nightmare -- given to thousands of children across the state

(Scroll down for text of entire survey below.)

This survey is given out to thousands of children across Massachusetts.  We've seen it given to kids as young as 6th grade. It is prepared by the Massachusetts Department of Education, but the towns have the option of modifying it and adding their own questions.  For example, this year Shrewsbury school system also asked 6th graders, "Have you ever given or received oral sex."

Unfortunately, parents are prohibited from seeing the survey or any of the questions before it is given to children.  The state and towns are very strict about the secrecy of this survey, and parents despise that policy but can't do anything about it.

This survey has angered parents across the state to the point where legislation is now filed to force written opt-in permission.  Click here for the bill.

You've got to see this to believe it.  The psychologically intrusive nature of this survey begs the question of how the very process of asking a child to answer this affects often fragile emotions and unsure view of the world and how he and his peers fit in. Children are asked to assign themselves a "sexual orientation", write down their innermost feelings about themselves, and admit on paper to various sexual activities, criminal conduct, and thoughts of suicide and self-mutilation. They are also asked to write down other personal information about themselves and their family members.  Even though all this eventually becomes anonymous, the child is asked to go through the process of thinking it through and writing it down.

Notice how it mixes in seemingly "normal" questions such as "What grade are you in?" and "How much did you exercise recently?" with questions about numbers of sex partners and suicide. This gives the child the idea that all these are equally normal behaviors that their peers are probably engaging in if they themselves aren't -- or else why would authority figures be asking them? And moral and ethical standards are completely ignored. The subliminal message to kids is that all these behaviors are considered equal, and none even particularly unusual.

One also wonders how any survey with such leading questions, presented the way it is, could possibly have any true statistical value.  No real statistics expert could consider this as a legitimate indicator of actual behavior. They are designed by activists, rather than actual scientists or medical authorities.

In addition, parents have reported hearing their kids talk about writing false answers as a joke, and we've heard reports about "gay" clubs in schools coaching kids to claim they were harassed and were suicidal.

Who benefits?  Starting in the mid-1990's, the "results" of this survey have been used by homosexual groups here (and in other states!) to "prove" that kids are not "safe," and prone to suicide, unless more homosexual programs are used in the schools. Homosexual groups use "safety" as a primary wedge to get into the schools. (See article here.)

Here's from the "Massachusetts Commission for Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Youth" web page -- which coordinates homosexual programs in the public schools -- using the survey results.  Notice -- from all those 99 questions, where the emphasis ends up!  (Adobe acrobat format.)

The purported "suicide" issue is particularly troubling because if any children actually are in that state of mind, they would need legitimate medical and psychological help, not the politically charged pseudo-science that the homosexual activists push at them. And in addition, these kinds of things should not be purposefully stirred up in kids' minds.

2005 Massachusetts
Youth Risk Behavior Survey

This survey is about health behavior. It has been developed so you can tell us what you do that may affect your health. The information you give will be used to develop better health education for young people like yourself.

DO NOT write your name on this survey. The answers you give will be kept private. No one will know what you write. Answer the questions based on what you really do.

Completing the survey is voluntary. Whether or not you answer the questions will not affect your grade in this class. If you are not comfortable answering a question, just leave it blank.

The questions that ask about your background will be used only to describe the types of students completing this survey. The information will not be used to find out your name. No names will ever be reported.

Make sure to read every question. Fill in the ovals completely. When you are finished, follow the instructions of the person giving you the survey.
