Twelve co-sponsors of Parents Rights Bill cave in to fringe homosexual group -- formally withdraw support of bill and remove their names as co-sponsors after 10-day pressure campaign!

Profiles in cowardice

It looks like the Marriage Amendment surrender by pro-family legislators was just the beginning.

As the result of a 10-day pressure campaign by a radical homosexual activist group, 12 of the 25 co-sponsors of the Parents Rights Bill (S321) caved in to their demands and formally removed their names from it, and are now even saying they will not support it.

[See list of legislators at bottom of this email]

In an unbelievable move, seven Republicans and five Democrats - most of them long-time "reliable" pro-family legislators - have apparently decided to abandon the children of Massachusetts in order to placate a homosexual activist group.

It's extremely rare for a legislator to remove his name from a bill; for 12 to do it in a 10-day period is unprecedented.

The campaign to pressure these legislators was done by "KnowThyNeighbor", one of the most vehemently hateful homosexual groups in the state. They are the ones who published all the names of the signers of the marriage amendment petition on a website, and encouraged people to contact them and harass them. In addition they disrupt pro-family events - screaming vulgar invectives and carrying banners proclaiming that religious people are bigots.

Here's a video of "KnowThyNeighbor" in action:

Although the group is made up of adult homosexual males, they have shown an inordinate interest in children. They came to testify at the State House against the Parents Rights Bill hearing, and in particular have become obsessed about the possibility that parents might keep the kids from homosexual programs in the schools. They are angry, dangerous people. And these legislators caved in to them in the most cowardly way.

Here's what happened.

On May 29, MassResistance testified at the State House for the Parents Rights Bill. The "KnowThyNeighbor" people were also there, and testified vehemently against it. They were visibly angry that we showed up to promote our bill.

On June 1 "KnowThyNeighbor" sent out an email announcing their campaign to pressure all of the co-sponsors of the Parents Rights Bill to withdraw their sponsorship and oppose the bill. Their tactics are to use the most obscene lies they can imagine. Their initial email blast began with the big headline:

"Is your legislator sponsoring a Holocaust denier's anti-gay bill?"

You read that correctly. They were proclaiming that Brian Camenker, president of MassResistance is a Holocaust denier. It's an incredibly disgusting lie. Camenker is Jewish, whose family came from Eastern Europe. But that was just the beginning. There was lie after lie about what the bill says or would do. (For example, they stated that if the bill were passed, Rep. Barney Frank would be prohibited from speaking at schools!) These are the tactics that the homosexual groups regularly use, but this was extreme. (They want to make sure, for example, that students in art class learn about Michelangelo's supposed homosexuality.)

On June 4 we learned that Rep. Paul Donato was the first to cave in. He even called our office to tell us that he now fully supported homosexual programs in the schools including, as he told us, lectures on transsexuality and posters of men romantically embracing!

Over the next week, KnowThyNeighbor's leader sent us several emails taunting us that one legislator after another was going to their side. On June 11 - over just 10 days - they got 12 to abandon the pro-family position.

A few days later, the hardcore homosexual newspaper "Bay Windows" published an article on their "victory" with many of the reps themselves being quoted:

Click here for "Bay Windows" article: "Lawmakers withdraw support for anti-gay proposal".
(Note in the article that Sen. Sen. Richard Tisei is quoted taking his name off. To our knowledge, however, Sen. Tisei - who supports homosexual causes - was never on the list.)

Cowardice and dishonesty

This week we called every called their offices for an explanation. None of the legislators themselves would talk to us, but we spoke to most of the staffs. What we heard were some of the most shameful dishonesty and sleaziness we'd ever heard from any elected officials - much less our "friends."

Here's a sample of the top eight disingenuous excuses we were told over and over:

  1. The legislator "got signed on as a co-sponsor without his knowledge." Basically, a lie. A legislator could only get on by having someone from his office personally call Sen. Hedlund's office. Hedlund's office had an electronic method of verifying that the calls came from the actual offices. Plus, when we thanked them and publicized their names, no one denied signing on.

  2. The legislator "hadn't read the bill carefully when he signed on to it." That's absurd. Since when does an elected representative co-sponsor a law without even reading it, or understanding what it says? If this is what they do, then they're pretty stupid and irresponsible.

  3. The legislator "isn't comfortable with the long list of 'alternative sexual behaviors' listed in the bill". These include sodomy, pederasty, bestiality, masturbation, and more. Well, we're not comfortable with them, either. But they're all being presented in Massachusetts public schools. So we're forced to deal with them.

  4. The legislator "isn't comfortable with the broad list of school-related activities that are covered in the bill."  The trouble is, that's a huge part of the problem. The schools are pushing this everywhere, including assemblies and extra-curricular events. Does the legislator think this is all right?

  5. The legislator "only wants the bill to deal with sex education classes." In other words, the legislator feels it's all right to present in any other class or activity? We don't think so.

  6. The legislator "was asked by constituents in his district not to support the bill". What about the constituents who DO support the bill? To our knowledge, each of these legislators had many constituents ask him to sign on. That's why did it.

  7. The legislator thinks "this infringes on a teacher's First Amendment rights".  What an absurd statement. A teacher does NOT have "First Amendment rights" to say anything he wants to children in a classroom.

  8. The legislator "likes a different parents rights bill better". There were several "alternative" parents rights bills also filed this session. ALL of them are much weaker. Some of them even weaken the current law!

This begs the question: Why should PARENTS have to compromise with homosexual activists??

Are you going to stand still for this?

So there you have it. In a 10-day period, a dozen legislators cave in to a fringe, hate-filled homosexual activist group targeting children. (In other words, this DID NOT happen by coincidence.) They swallow the most outlandish, disgusting lies without even bothering to ask us if it were actually true. (None of them called to discuss any issues they were having with the bill.)

Unbelievably, after just 10 days, 12 "good" reps caved in and (1) officially told the Senate Clerk to remove their names as co-sponsors and (2) publicly declared that they no longer support the bill (a few even telling to the radical homosexual newspaper "Bay Windows").

We've found out the absurd and outrageous lies the homosexual activists told these reps (from KnowThyNeighbor emails sent to their supporters):`

  1. LIE: The author of the bill is a "Holocaust denier."

  2. LIE: A history teacher could not mention about gays in the Holocaust.

  3. LIE: Students could not watch presidential debates that included questions on 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'.

  4. LIE: US Congressman Barney Frank could be prevented from being a guest speaker.

  5. LIE: A classic novel like "Moby Dick" could be removed from the curriculum for its mild references to homosexuality.

  6. LIE: Hate crimes would be off limits in a current events discussion.

These are all complete, outrageous lies about the Parents Rights Bill. But these legislators never asked us for an explanation. They just caved in.

But infinitely worse, they don't seem the least bit uncomfortable that they're spending our taxpayer money for the perversions in the schools such as The Little Black Book, or trans-sexual assemblies in high schools, or telling kindergartners that some people have two mothers. And that anyone who disagrees (including parents) are being labeled bigots and haters by school staff. It doesn't bother them that David Parker went to jail over this -- and a federal judge agreed that the schools can do this without parents' knowledge or consent because the current law is too weak.

And it gets worse.

Since then, we've had discussions with some of these legislators and their staffs. They keep using the lame line that "there are features in the bill we don't like." But they refuse to be specific. They won't tell us what those "features" are. (We suspect they don't want to talk about it because they know how parents feel about these protections.)

Now we've found out that Reps. Donato, DiNatale, and Evangelitis are planning to "amend" the Parents Rights Bill to compromise with the demands of the homosexual activists! They've admitted this in communications with some of their constituents, but they so far won't return our calls about it.

This is outrageous. Why should parents have to compromise with homosexual activists about what their children are taught in the public schools?

TAKE ACTION NOW!

These elected officials are willing to give homosexual activists - not parents - the right to decide what children are taught. If we allow this, then we deserve whatever happens.

CALL them. VISIT them. EVERY ONE of these legislators needs to
be contacted by YOU.

Tell them:

  1. Do NOT insult us by believing the lies from the homosexual activists. (And we are outraged that they removed their names as co-sponsors.)

  2. Do NOT attempt to amend the Parents Rights Bill (And what "features" don't they like about it?)

  3. MAKE A PUBLIC STATEMENT that you support the Parents Rights Bill (S321) in its current form, and will vote for it.
