MassResistance newswire . . .

May 29, 2007

And there's more: Public hearing WEDNESDAY for five dangerous bills pushing the sex-ed lobby's agenda in the public schools and elsewhere.

Also effectively BANNING abstinence education in schools!

What:   Committee on Public Health - public hearing
When:  Wednesday, May 30, 2007, 10:00 am
Where: State House, Room A1

It's not just the Education Committee that's hearing bills affecting the public schools. Apparently, the activists in the Legislature have figured out that the Public Health Committee might be an easy way to slide some of these bills through, among the more legitimate public health oriented bills. In the hearing Wednesday, the committee will be hearing testimony on 17 bills, but these are ones you should be very worried about. If you can, please come and testify; if you can't email us about how you can submit testimony.

H1172 – “An Act relative to health education.” – Rep. Ruth Balser

http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/185/ht01pdf/ht01172.pdf

This bans any state agency (or school system) from applying for Federal Abstinence Education grants!  Unbelievable.

H2107 - “An Act establishing a health education program in the public schools.”- Rep. Mary Grant

http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/185/ht02pdf/ht02107.pdf

Mandates health education in schools. Back in 1998, we persuaded the State Board of Education to remove "health education" (i.e., sex-ed, abortion, homosexuality programs, etc.) from the list of mandated subjects in public schools. This would circumvent that and write into state law that health education is again MANDATED in the public schools. It should be up to the individual schools and parents.

H2108 - “An Act relative to local control of health education curriculums.”- Rep. Mary Grant

http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/185/ht02pdf/ht02108.pdf

VERY dangerous. Mandates that each school district create local "Health Education Curriculum Committees." We've seen this in many school districts already. The people selected for these committees are invariably Planned Parenthood-type activists and their fellow travelers. Occasionally a "normal" person is allowed on these boards, but they're always outnumbered and outvoted. It's a way to push more Planned Parenthood and sex-ed/homosexuality programs into the schools under the cloak of "legitimacy."

H2217 - “An Act relative to pregnancy prevention.”- Rep. Douglas Peterson

http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/185/ht02pdf/ht02217.pdf

Creates another state-sponsored "reality based" program for young unwed women who are pregnant. Appears to be a funding program for Planned Parenthood and similar groups.

H2266 - “An Act to promote healthy behaviors.”- Rep. Timothy Toomey, Jr.

http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/185/ht02pdf/ht02266.pdf

Creates a state-sponsored program of "community-based health and sexuality education services provided by comprehensive family planning agencies." In other words, more of your tax money going to Planned Parenthood and its allied groups.

If you can make it on Wednesday, it would make a difference! You can bet that the sex-ed lobby will be there in force.

This Tuesday, May 29: Major bills on homosexual agenda in schools - public hearing before Education Committee!

New Parents Rights Bill would protect children!
Planned Parenthood bills would mandate homosexuality and other offensive topics as requirement for graduation.

If you care about the homosexual agenda in the public schools this is ground zero!

When: Tuesday, May 29, 2007, 1:00 pm
Where: State House, Room A1

This Tuesday, the rights of parents and schoolchildren are being put on the line. It will be one of the most important public hearings of the year, as the Legislature's Education Committee holds public hearings for key bills regarding the homosexual agenda in the Massachusetts schools. You'll see a lot of "special interest" people there whose main interest is getting to your children!

If you are outraged at the homosexual clubs in the schools, the "gay day" presentations, the Day of Silence, the propaganda machine aimed at your children, the inclusion of 'gay' studies in history, science, and even math classes, and the David Parker horror, then you need to pay attention to this.

1. The new Parents Rights Bill - S321 - needs to be supported!

This is tremendously important! This new bill was crafted to specifically address the growing range of outrageous abuses against schoolchildren and their parents in the public schools by the powerful homosexual and sex-ed movement. If passed, it would likely be a model for legislation across the country. With over two dozen co-sponsors (and many others who have pledged support) it's a clear result of the outrage across the state. This bill would update the current Parental Notification Law (Ch 71, Sec. 32A) which we wrote and lobbied back in 1994.

Read text of bill, summary of why it's needed, and more here.

This bill (1) specifically defines the behaviors and issues covered - rather than the current vague language; (2) makes it solidly OPT-IN and not opt-out; (3) allows a conscience clause for teachers; and (4) covers inappropriate and invasive surveys given to kids.

But it won't be easy. The homosexual lobby and sex-ed lobby is determined not to let parents have these rights, and the Education Committee is dominated by liberals. You need to let that Committee know that you DEMAND these rights. (And remember, these are but normal and necessary parental rights – the basis of civilization over millennia, the rights of parents to bring up their own children according to their own values.)

2. The Planned Parenthood "health" bill - H597 / S288 - must be defeated

This bill would mandate sex ed, abortion counseling, and normalization of homosexuality (and even transexuality)  in the public schools as a legal requirement.

Read the text of bill, plus analysis & background here.

This bill is part of Planned Parenthood's 5-year plan to get into your schools even further! We stopped their similar bill last session, and this time they're back with less offensive sounding version, but it's still very dangerous. Planned Parenthood has worked hard for this, getting dozens of co-sponsors!

The four "phony" parents rights bills! (H465, H509, H521, H541)

We can't believe this. These four misguided bills were filed by "friends", but without our knowledge.

Like the new Parents Rights Bill, these four other bills would each replace the current Parental Notification Law. But none of them would give the needed protections. And three of them would actually weaken the current law!! Maybe the supporters of these bills are just misguided or (as often the case in the State House) misinformed.

Here are the parents rights bills that should NOT be supported.

Here's what to do:

Get there early if possible and sign the sheet for the bill numbers S321 and H597, and any of the others you want. Get a colored sticker from us showing your support for Parents Rights Bill S321.

When it's your turn, you generally get about 3 minutes to talk. Be prepared. Don't be afraid to tell it like it is, and don't be intimidated. These people are making your laws.

Make sure you bring written testimony in addition to your oral comments. If you don’t get a chance to speak, or don’t wish to speak, written testimony is still very effective, and your physical presence at the meeting will have impact! One of the Education Committee's distasteful tactics is to let the homosexual/sex ed activists (and their friends in the Legislature) testify first, and make us wait until the end. If you also submit written testimony, the committee staff will give a copy to each member, even those who didn't attend the hearing. Follow up by sending your testimony to your own Senator and Representative.

If you can’t come to the hearing, contact us (see top of page) and we'll give you instructions on how to submit testimony.

What happens next

This is quite important. This committee will decide whether these bills are "killed" or moved forward to the full Legislature for a vote. They generally announce their decision in an "executive session" held sometime after the hearing.

This committee needs to do the right thing for parents - not special interests. They need to move S321 forward, and "kill" the others.

The homosexual lobby is organizing to stop the Parents Rights Bill!

On Monday evening, May 21, your taxpayer-funded "Massachusetts Commission on Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Youth" announced during their meeting that they are organizing and lobbying to oppose the Parents Rights Bill, S321. "It's really important to block it," they said. They added that they plan to lobby hard with individual legislators to get it killed.

But of course. The new Parents Rights Bill represents the worst nightmare for the homosexual movement (as well as Planned Parenthood and the general sex-ed industry) going after kids in the public schools. That's because it gives the parents the control over what their kids are exposed to.

You can expect to see all these groups out in force at next Tuesday's public hearing.

And this is the same "Commission" that brought you the recent "Youth Pride Day" horror show, which we've documented, featuring a day of predatory adults mingling with troubled kids in downtown Boston.

If good people don't make their voices heard, you'll see more of this!

Mass. Governor backs down - stays away from hardcore homosexual "youth pride" day after MassResistance flood of calls and emails from angry citizens.

Your torrent of angry calls and emails did it!!  Governor Deval Patrick, avowed "ally" of the homosexual movement, abruptly backed down and stayed away from the homosexual movement's annual hardcore "Youth Pride" event. Do not underestimate the power of outraged citizens armed with a single purpose -- even when things look bleak. Remember, this is the place where the American Revolution began.

It started out much differently. A week ago MassResistance spoke with a member of the Governor's staff about the upcoming Youth Pride Day. It has a history of depraved sexually-oriented activities involving adults and children. The Governor was scheduled to be there and participate in it. We told him that the Governor must not insult the rest of us by attending.

He told us that the Governor was definitely going to be there and he couldn't imagine anything stopping that. And that was that. (And as we know, the homosexual movement raised money for him and campaigned for him last November, and some payback was in order.)

We emailed the Governor's office the disgusting pictures and descriptions of past "Youth Pride" days. But we were later told the same thing: The Governor was definitely going.

Then the Governor's office started to hear from you. From across Massachusetts and all over the country (even some calls from foreign countries, we believe) the calls and emails poured in. People were outraged. They were angry. They demanded that this insult not happen.

By mid-week, things were getting shaken up in the corner office. Some callers were being told that the Governor was still going to the event. Other callers were told by exasperated staff members he wasn't going to be there, but no one would verify that on record. Both the Governor's scheduling office and press office refused to talk about it at all. The official "Youth Pride" website continued to list Gov. Patrick as a participant, and no one in the Governor's office would go on record denying that.

The calls kept coming.

By Friday afternoon the official party line from the Governor's office was, "His attendance is unconfirmed." (You'd think that they'd know what he was going to do the next day!)

On Saturday at noon at "Youth Pride" on the Boston Common, MassResistance was there. But the Governor was nowhere to be found. It was quietly announced that "the Governor had a prior engagement and was unable to be here." In his place, the new Commissioner of Public Health (a man "married" to another man) came and blathered on about gay pride and AIDS.

Governor Deval Patrick's public presence at this event was very important to the homosexual lobby. And his last-minute act of backing down is more than a victory for parents and citizens - it had a very real psychological impact on the homosexual lobby. They saw that we're not taking it anymore. And they saw what outrage can cause.

Public Hearing Tuesday before Education Committee: some curriculum bills. The BIG hearing is in two weeks (Tues., May 29) with Parents Rights bill, Planned Parenthood "health education" bill, and others!

This week's hearing before the Education Committee of the Legislature covers "curriculum" bills for public schools. Most of these are fairly innocuous, but a few stand out - both good and bad.

When: Tuesday afternoon, May 15, 1:00 pm
Where: Massachusetts State House - Room A1
What: Education Committee public hearing new bills before the Legislature

We've listed three of the bills below, but check out the complete list which we've posted:
http://www.massresistance.org/docs/govt07/ed_bills_0515.html
(Note: The list posted on the official Government website is incomplete, which we called and confirmed with the Committee.)

A few particularly interesting bills to take note of:

H554 -- An Act Relative to Civics Education in Schools
http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/185/ht00pdf/ht00554.pdf
(Filed by Rep. Scaccia for Leo Sullivan) This is a long needed civics bill that would certainly change education in many schools.
Requires grades 6-12 to study ""the articles of confederation, the history of the political climate that led to the American Revolution, the federal structure which emphasizes the vertical separation of powers and the relationship of the constitutions of the commonwealth and county and duties of citizenship."
The bill also specifically states -
"Course material shall be taught as originally drafted with no intentional omissions of the original intent of the founding fathers. The teaching of a revisionist form of history shall be considered invalid."

These two were sure to be found at some point, this being Massachusetts:

S372 -- AN ACT TO RECOGNIZE GLOBAL WARMING
http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/senate/185/st00/st00372.htm
(Filed by Sen. Tarr) Text of bill: "Global Warming Awareness. In all public elementary and high schools there shall be a program of an instruction providing for global warming awareness. Said program shall be named the global warming awareness program and shall occur each year on a date designated by the commissioner. Said program shall instruct students as to the scientific causes of and global climate effects of global warming with materials provided by the department."

H551 -- An Act Relative to the teaching of Islamic and Middle Eastern History
http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/house/185/ht00pdf/ht00551.pdf
(Filed by Rep. Sannicandro) Requires state Board of Education to enact a policy that will facilitate school districts to teach Islamic and Middle Eastern history at the middle and high school levels.
