Second year in a row: Idaho House of Representatives passes MassResistance resolution urging SCOTUS to overturn Obergefell “gay marriage” ruling.

Our resolution is back in state legislatures across the country!

It sends a message to the U.S. Supreme Court that they must revisit this outrageous ruling.

Its biggest impediment so far has been RINOS in “red” states.

In recent months, other conservative groups began talking about getting the Obergefell “gay marriage” ruling overturned. But MassResistance is actually doing something about it!

This week the Idaho House of Representatives passed our MassResistance resolution (as they also did last year) urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn its infamous 2015 Obergefell ruling that imposed same-sex “marriage” on America. The vote was 44-26.

Other state legislators have been introducing it this year in their states.

The flawed Obergefell ruling

As we’ve described, the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court 5-4 Obergefell ruling that imposed “gay marriage” across America was an assault by an “activist judiciary.” It was deeply flawed constitutionally. Two of the Justices who ruled in favor should have recused themselves.

Thirty-eight states had already passed laws or constitutional amendments affirming natural marriage. The Supreme Court, with one split ruling, forced the rest of the country to recognize this corruption of marriage and accept homosexuality as normal.

Justices Thomas and Alito have stated that the flawed Obergefell ruling should be revisited (as happened with Roe v. Wade).

The MassResistance resolution in state legislatures

Last year, MassResistance activists across the country began working with their state legislators to file a strongly-worded resolution demanding that the U.S. Supreme Court revisit and overturn this terrible ruling. In many states this is particularly pertinent because they had passed a constitutional amendment defining marriage as one-man/one-woman.

These resolutions are not legally binding. They simply urge the Supreme Court to act. But they deliver a powerful message coming from a state legislature!

Last year the Idaho House and North Dakota House both passed it. Our resolutions were also formally introduced in Oklahoma, South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, and Montana (as well as the Idaho Senate and North Dakota Senate) – but either the time ran out or RINOs blocked them.

Our activists are back in the battle this year. And this time, the legislative push is looking much stronger!

This year’s first win: The Idaho House – a battle against misleading rhetoric

In Idaho, it was ultimately the all-too typical situation where the RINOs and Democrats teamed up to derail anything “anti-LGBT.” But as they did last year, the Idaho House’s conservative majority held strong.

On March 3, the resolution sailed through the House State Affairs Committee by 10-4, despite the two Democrats and two RINOs who actively opposed it and tried to confuse the issue with misleading arguments and statements. But the committee chairman rebuffed those with his own strong arguments, and the Idaho Family Policy Center came and testified for it. (The resolution had been slipped into the agenda earlier that day, giving the LGBT movement little time to mobilize.)

On March 10, it went to the House floor for debate and a vote.

Democrat Rep. Ilana Rubel (Boise) argued that this would lead to re-instituting a ban on interracial marriages. She said that the Obergefell ruling was “settled law” and trying to reverse it was “harmful” to same-sex couples.

Next, RINO Rep. Grayson Stone (R-Twin Falls) compared “gay marriage” to his own marriage to his wife. He said that the effort to ban it is based on a Biblical argument, so to be consistent we should adopt other rules from the Bible, such as the prohibition against shaving one’s head.

Then the resolution’s sponsor, Rep. Tony Wisniewski (R-Post Falls) spoke. He said Rubel’s interracial marriage argument had nothing to do with one-man/one-woman marriage, and Stone’s Bible argument was a fatuous misuse of scripture. He pointed out that in re-defining marriage, Obergefell had undermined millennia of cultural history and law. The ruling is certainly not “settled law” by any means. And he cited numerous attacks on religious freedom that have resulted from the ruling.

The resolution passed by two fewer votes than last year, so the liberal media played this up as “proof” that there is less support for restoring natural marriage. But the truth is that two Idaho State Reps had left the House after being appointed to positions in the Trump Administration. Governor Brad Little, a liberal Republican, appointed RINOs as their replacements.

Other states that are lining up to pass our resolution

This year will certainly be exciting. Our activists around the country are charging hard! And in State Houses, the excitement of making bold statements expressing their outrage against what “gay marriage” has done to society is catching on among conservative lawmakers. But the battle against RINOs continues.

As of this writing, here’s where things stand:

Mainstream media losing their minds

MassResistance’s national push last year was even reported by the New York Times – among many other national and local mainstream outlets across the country.

Over just the past month, there have been so many (mostly hysterical) articles in the mainstream media about this year’s efforts that we will put out a separate post about it. It’s almost comical! They see MassResistance’s work as the end of civilization!

Final thoughts

This effort has really brought to light the chasm between the conservative GOP grassroots (especially in “red” states) and their GOP elected officials. It’s a battle that must be taken on.

In our next post you’ll see a great report on how our activists are fighting back in one state!
