MassResistance attacked worldwide in leftist media for simply advising pro-family forces in Senegal.
MassResistance ludicrously derided as “colonial power” and “controlling force” in African politics.
Hysterical attacks reveal hypocrisy and dishonesty of pro-LGBT media.
May 21, 2026
This French language news site says our pro-family advice subverted human rights in Senegal! The headline: "How the American Group MassResistance Helped Toughen Anti-LGBT Laws."If the news reports around the world are to be believed, MassResistance appears to be the Left’s most detested (i.e. effective?) American pro-family group. We seem to make big things happen without even trying! Our media coverage in foreign countries has always been a bit surprising, but the latest eruption is over the top.
Background
The Obama and Biden administrations made “LGBT rights” a prominent part of U.S. foreign policy. It used political pressure and directed millions of dollars to local NGOs – and collaborated with Western European governments – to push the LGBT agenda into unwilling countries.
A major part of that was directed at schoolchildren, angering many local parents and religious leaders. But the mainstream U.S. pro-family movement was not interested in getting involved, so citizens in Nigeria, Jamaica, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries turned to MassResistance for advice, strategies, and other help in pushing back on the LGBT insurgence.
During the first Trump administration, the left-leaning U.S. State Department continued this. But starting in 2025, the current Trump State Department derailed much of it, saying that taxpayer dollars should not be "wasted on divisive social and gender issues." That has freed up these countries to take corrective action.
Helping Senegal activists get started
Senegal is a majority Muslim, French-speaking country in West Africa. The people also speak the native Wolof language, but relatively few speak English. (Arthur Schaper, our Field Director, speaks French.)
In December 2024, MassResistance was contacted by Ababacar Mboup, the leader of Senegal’s national pro-family activist coalition, asking for our help. Arthur communicated with him extensively via Zoom and email.
Ababacar described to Arthur how Senegalese citizens had begun protesting against the LGBT content and propaganda in the schools and the public square. In particular, parents were outraged over Western organizations in the country corrupting their children and attempting to seduce them into those perversions, he said.
Parents in Senegal were very angry at the propaganda. This sign at a Senegal protest says, "My son will not be homosexual."Ababacar said that the newly elected Senegalese leadership had pledged to ensure more stringent laws protecting children. He and his coalition wanted to make sure that the new government followed through on their promise. He asked for our guidance on how to make this happen.

A meeting of Ababacar's national pro-family coalition, "Together for the Safeguarding of Values."We suggested that his national coalition aggressively lobby the newly elected Parliament. We talked with him about activist strategies and provided other written resources (which we translated into French).
Usually we help the local people form a MassResistance chapter for ongoing coaching. But there were some regulatory barriers to doing that in Senegal. So after a few weeks of helping them get started, we wished them luck and moved on.
A major bill is unanimously passed in Parliament
Over a year later, in March 2026, we got a call from a Reuters reporter. By then we had pretty much forgotten about our contacts with Senegal.
The reporter informed us that Senegal’s Parliament had unanimously passed a major anti-LGBT law that has caused shock waves among leftists across Africa. This call from Reuters was the first we’d heard about the law.
It turns out that Senegal already had criminal penalties against the practice and promotion of homosexuality and transgenderism. The new law increased the penalty for homosexual acts between consenting adults to 6-10 years in prison, plus stiff fines. If those acts involve minors, the maximum penalty is given. The penalty for advancing any LGBT topics (promotion, support, glorification, or financing of homosexuality and related acts) is now 3-7 years plus the loss of one’s civil rights.
Reuters had already interviewed Ababacar, who told them that MassResistance had given his group advice, strategy, and materials. We talked with the reporter about the problems we’d seen across Africa, and acknowledged that we’d talked with Ababacar back in 2024.
Reuters article cites MassResistance
On March 16, Reuters published its article on MassResistance. Unlike most of the media articles that came afterwards, it was actually a fair analysis of the situation. It even acknowledged that the U.S. had been pushing the LGBT agenda in Africa – though it quoted a far-left source suggesting that the real danger is the backlash by Africans to it:
Reuters could not determine the impact of MassResistance's work in Senegal on the vote.
But this is the first known case of a U.S. group helping shape a successful push for anti-LGBT legislation in Africa since Trump returned to power in January 2025.
"The transnational pro-family movement has reached new heights in terms of their level of influence now that Trump is in office," said Haley McEwen, author of the 2024 book "The U.S. Christian Right and Pro-Family Politics in 21st Century Africa".
The State Department said Trump's approach to foreign assistance ensures taxpayer dollars are not "wasted on divisive social and gender issues", a departure from the Biden and Obama administrations which made LGBT rights part of foreign policy.
... In December 2024, And Samm Jikko Yi contacted MassResistance to discuss an attempt to change the law as well as the possible creation of a MassResistance chapter in Senegal, [Ababacar] Mboup and Schaper said.
They discussed tactics for awareness-raising, mobilization and advocacy with Senegalese authorities, Mboup added.
MassResistance says it is focused on pushing "pro-family laws and policies" that ensure LGBT rights are not celebrated or normalized.
The article also tries to connect us to legislation in other countries: “Beyond Senegal, [MassResistance] has been involved in recent advocacy supporting a proposed new anti-LGBT law in Ghana.” We appreciate the rousing publicity from Reuters. But in fact, we’ve had very little contact with people in Ghana over the past year, and we’re not aware of any particular law being proposed there.
The media firestorm around the world
It appears that the pro-LGBT mainstream media in Africa and beyond took this as a major threat to their efforts to infiltrate and subvert African society. The reaction was not only over the top, but was steeped in hypocrisy and dishonesty. We were called a colonial power subjugating Africans, a hate group (of course), a dangerous outside force, unwanted interlopers, etc.
In a way, their bizarre reaction is understandable. No other international pro-family groups take the aggressive approach that MassResistance does in countering the well-funded and well-organized radical agendas being pushed from the West. They are taken aback by us.
Here’s a sample of the media that came out soon after the Reuters report:

This man made a video saying that homosexuality is natural to African culture, and that MassResistance is an outside force helping to import homophobic laws.
"The reality is that behind all the conservative/homophobic laws passed in Africa in recent years, we find the same conservative movements, here MassResistance."Final thoughts
It looks like we’re the most disliked pro-family group by leftists around the world!
Maybe that’s because MassResistance fills an important gap in the U.S. and international pro-family/conservative movement. We don’t just document developments. We take the time to organize people with proven strategies and tactics so they can seriously confront the radical agendas in their countries.
So even when we don’t do something substantial, our mere presence – even though it was an entire year earlier – causes waves of leftist anger!
Please help us continue to do our uncompromising work!
Our successes depend on people like you.
Your support will make the difference!
